About Us

"Recovery is based on the empowerment of the survivor
and the creation of new connections. Recovery can take place only within
the context of relationships; it cannot occur in isolation."

- Judith Herman, Trauma and Recovery (1992)

History

For the past 20 years, the Long Island College Hospital’s (LICH) Rape Crisis Intervention/Victims of Violence Program (RCIP/VOVP) has been the only hospital-based comprehensive program in Brooklyn that provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and sexual abuse.

Through the provision of comprehensive, direct service, the RCIP/VOVP creates a strong supportive environment for domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual abuse survivors in Brooklyn as well as aiding in the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault and sexual abuse. The program has been recognized by the New York State Department of Health and is a designated Center of Excellence.

Mission Statement

The mission of the RCIP/VOVP is to assist in the recovery of domestic violence and sexual assault and sexual abuse victims in Brooklyn, by utilizing the Best Practice Model to enhance victim care and healing in a strong, supportive environment.
