Prevention Strategies
- Be aware of your environment at all times. If you are out alone at night, walk in a well lit area. Be aware of shops and restaurants that are open along your route.
- If you sense danger of any sort, run away. Run toward the nearest person or populate area.
- Don't be afraid of being rude or making a scene. Your safety is more important than hurting an innocent stranger's feelings. For example, if you are in an elevator with one other person who makes you feel uneasy, get off immediately.
- Walk confidently and with purpose wherever you go.
- Be alert. Rapists come from all walks of life, in all sizes and colors. They can be professionals, blue collar workers, dates or friends.
- Think now about your options. Try to plan what you might do if you were attacked. A good prevention strategy is to think about your options – it will help you to be prepared.
